Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin is easily irritated and often also displays inflammation, redness, itching, or stinging sensations plus has a tendency to breakout/clog pores from internal and eternal factors.
Those with sensitive skin need to be aware of ingredients in foods and products that irritate skin from the inside out and the outside in.
Sensitive skin may be made worse by:
- Sun exposure
- Exposure to air pollution
- Frequent changes in temperature
- Cold, harsh weather
- Hard water (water with higher mineral content)
- Very hot water
- Lack of sleep
- Hormonal changes during your menstrual cycle or pregnancy
- Stress and late nights
- Chlorine in swimming pools
- Dry skin and dehydration
Tips for Sensitive Skin:
- Use a mild cleanser
- Choose a hydrator that helps skin hold onto moisture
- Avoid fragrance
- Avoid Antibacterial or deodorant ingredients
- Avoid alcohol
- Avoid retinoids or alpha-hydroxy acids
- Do not use waterproof cosmetics
- Toss old cosmetics
- Apply new products behind the ear for a fews days to test with your skin
- Pat dry after a shower
- Don’t over-heat your house
- Take warm vs hot showers
